Then Alibaba, now SpaceX?
Alibaba pictures (ChinaVision media), the entartainment subsidiary of e-commerce gaint Alibaba invested in Tom cruise starrer mission impossible: rouge nation and mission impossible: fallout back then. It is also responsible for marketing the film in China which is world's fastest growing movie industry. According to consulting firm Deloitte, by 2020 China's film industry will become the largest film market in the world with revenue reaching 200 billion.
Tom cruise fan base and Alibaba's wide sacle marketing in China helped MI-5 and MI-6 to reach around $80 million and $180 million respectively. Jack Ma surprised fans at the Mission Impossible 5 Shanghai premiere by appearing as a surprise guest and chatting onstage with MI star Tom Cruise. At the premiere, Ma said that he has always enjoyed watching movies. “When you want to know about the world, or the future of the world, we must look at movies. It is a way to better understand young people.”
Apart from the triumph of Alibaba by investing in mission impossible movies, this investment also helped online movie-ticketing platform Taopiaopiao, online marketplace Taobao, video-streaming hub Youku and digital wallet-Alipay to reach more than 500 million potential consumers. Did Alibaba upped the game by making investment in popular film star Tom cruise movies and make it happen to reach more potential consumers?
Recent news states that SpaceX and NASA is working together to shoot a film in outer space starring Tom cruise and it will be a not a part of Mission impossible franchise. The existence of the project was confirmed by NASA administrator Bridenstine in a tweet.
He also specified that it is going to be filmed at International Space Station. Tom Cruise has to undergo training to become an astronaut which is not a cake walk. But Tom Cruise is so as popular in making death-defying stunts.
Is this part of another wide scale marketing plan by SpaceX?
